I have a bachelor’s in fine arts, and a Masters in Liberal Arts from UNC Asheville. Working with kids has always been a passion of mine. From nannying and after school care as a teenager, to working in the public school system with local non-profits as an adult. I've also worked in a lot of difficult environments like therapeutic boarding schools, the foster system, youth shelters, and juvenile detention. I love finding new and creative ways to connect and help kids discover their potential.
My teaching philosophy is that kids are so much smarter and more intuitive than most people give them credit for. All children are deserving of respect, compassion, and patience, and if given the chance, they can flourish in their own unique ways. My job as a teacher is to find what works for them as individuals and meet them where they're at. And I truly believe that learning is fun and there is always a way to integrate creativity, joy, and silliness into any subject.
My favorite thing about kids is the SASS! I love watching a kid find their voice. Sure, that voice might get them in trouble from time to time, but watching that process unfold is so fascinating. Seeing someone start to figure out how the world works and how they work in the world is such a privilege.
My favorite thing about WBNS is that it is exactly the kind of school I used to stare out the window and daydream about while I was stuck behind a desk as a kid. The amount of time spent outside, allowing kids to connect with nature and learn useful life skills while collaborating with their peers is so special.
